Serious stuff here, just for a moment.
From CNN - The video is hard to turn away from. A sobbing 16-year-old sits in her bedroom and, staring into a camera, says she has been raped.
Is this the new wave of things to come? So far there have been beatings taped and uploaded to YouTube, there have been crimes displayed for everyone to see, and now there are videos of people talking about sexual assault and rape that has happened to them in the recent or remote past.
YouTube is sort of the new-age confessional, the only problem is it's not anonymous. This girl posted her video and in no time at all CNN found her and interviewed her, which incidentally is what she was asking for, she just wanted help. But what about the other people out there who don't have the news networks knocking at their door? Are there repercussions from posting something so personal as a rape confession? It's kind of disturbing to think about.
So is the video real? CNN seems to think so, but after watching the video myself it's hard to tell if they are real tears or just someone doing a so-so acting job, just wanting to be noticed or "discovered." Remember Lonely Girl 15? This seems to be the problem too, what if girls or boys would rather be famous than get justice? They'd rather tell a million strangers than one person that could actually help.
I like YouTube for the funny videos, cute kids, goofy car crashes, music videos, and all the other time-wasters it's filled with, but I'm not too sure I'm ready to watch people with actual problems that they need to get professional help for, whether it be psychiatrists or police.
Anyway, here's the video so you can make a decision yourself.
